Understanding the place of service continuum for occupational therapy within the medical model is important for OT practitioners for the following reasons: (1) Understand each practice setting clinical approaches and how they differ in types of goals addressed (2) Understanding the types of jobs they will be seeking or can seek (3) Equip their patients with the information they need for future occupational therapy. Being discharged from one place setting should always be met with education for the next place setting within its given profession. This is how we grow and support our profession.
